Have you ever readPsalm 62: 1-2? The verses say, "For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken." (ESV)
When I first read these verses, I wondered, how can my soul wait in silence? There is so much happening within my life. How do I keep myself secure and not anxious when facing a trial?
We can keep ourselves secure and not anxious by surrendering our worries to God. To wait in silence means trusting in God. David says in Psalm 62:5-7 "For God alone, O my Soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken. On God rests my salvation and my glory; my mighty rock, my refuge is God."
In other words, David reminds his soul that his hope comes from the Lord. My friend, to wait in silence means we are waiting patiently and uncomplaining. Remember, God is your rock, salvation, fortress, and refuge. Rest in Him.
We easily fall into the "woe is me" mentality, but if we are to wait in silence and trust that the Lord is our rock and refuge, then like David, we must also remind ourselves of who God is. Remind ourselves of the Lord's promises to every believer by reading his word.
Look at what the scripture says:
John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid."
Romans 8:28 "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose."
James 1:2-4 "Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing"
1 Peter 5:10 "And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you."
1 Corinthians 10:13 "No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it."
In desperate circumstances, turning our eyes away from what is causing us pain is difficult. But we must look away from the source of the pain and instead turn our eyes on the Lord, who is the source of our hope. Keep your eyes on our Lord Jesus Christ.
Hebrews 12:2 says,"looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God."
Again, to wait in silence means we must trust God. If there is one thing I am learning more and more, it is that trials do not go away. So, we let them consume us or fight on with grace, trusting in the Lord. Trials are beautiful because they humble us to seek the Lord. To seek the Lord means not only reading scripture but praying as well. I know this sounds repetitive, but it's true.
I've come to lovePsalm 119:25-28: It says, "My Soul clings to the dust; give me life according to your word! When I told of my ways, you answered me; teach me your statutes! Make me understand the way of your precepts, and I will meditate on your wondrous works. My soul melts away for sorrow; strengthen me according to your word!"
I love these verses so much because the Psalmist realized that God and His word alone is sufficient, and He is the best source of instructions. My friend, trusting the Lord means surrendering your troubles to him. Do you want refuge? Then run to your Savior. There is a sense of beauty within a storm.
I'm not saying it's easy because, Lord knows, trials are not. Some trials can be the most painful experiences. One thing I am realizing is that whenever I find myself in a difficult circumstance, that is when I seek the Lord more. That is where I am reminded that I am not called to do it alone; I have the Lord. I have the Holy Spirit; I have my God who I can seek and take my troubles, and he will renew my strength (Isaiah 40:31)
Look, no one wants trials. I don't want trials. But within a trial, we experience the sweet comfort that only the Lord can offer us. Our soul gets to experience the hope that can only be found in God alone. There is beauty within the pain.
So, how does my soul wait in silence? By running to our Savior. Ladies, run to God and cling to Him. Surrender your doubts to Him. For is it through Him that we receive our hope. He alone is sufficient, and we can trust in Him. Remember, He will never forsake you. Our souls can find rest in God alone, and it is because of that our souls can wait in silence
Great points. Psalms is a great source for wisdom. May we cling to God always.

It is often through the darkest valleys The Lord draws us nearer to Himself. What an encouragement and blessing to be reminded that we can wait on the Lord and cling to Him, knowing that He is good and always has a plan for even the most hopeless of situations. Thank you sister, Glory to God!
